Reforming sex offenders
(Part B – Home Section – Page B5 – Law & Order)

Question 1
How does the treatment programme of the Singapore Prison Service help sex offenders?

-It helps them to learn about the way they think and how their actions flow from
this in other words, is to help them choose not to commit sex offences when the urge
arises again.

Question 2
Do you think that sex offenders should be given a second chance in the society? State your reasons.

-Sex offenders should be given a second chance for them to turn a new leaf in the
society. If we were so selfish not to given them a second chance, we would not know
if they really change after coming out from the prison. Everyone makes mistake. Even
though they have done something that most people would not be able to forgive,
still, they need a second chance. Some of them perhaps really make a great effort
to change while in the prison, if we never give them another chance, their effort
will go down the drain. There might also be a high chance that they might commit
the offence again for revenge.
